Outline of OLED

For the first time, OLED (Organic Electro Luminescence Display)
was observed by Bernanose, French, and co-workers in 1950 and
then wide and many intensive works have been achieved in both
industry and university labs.
OLED is one of the self-luminous flat panel display by the
phenomenon of the emission of electromagnetic radiation by the
recombination of pair of electron and hole in organic material layer
subjected to an external electric field.
OLED has excellent characteristics such as low power
consumption, high brightness, fast response time, and light weight
with low production cost. With these feature, OLED is believed that
one of the best display for most consumer electronic applications
such as cellular phone, CNS (car navigation system), PDA (personal
digital assistant ), camcorder, and palm PC, etc.
Eventually, OLED will completely replace LCD in the future flat
panel display applications since it consists of self-luminous pixels,
which eliminates back-lights and TFT(thin film transistor) and can
be manufactured by the lower cost than LCD.
