DISCO was established in 1937 as a manufacturer of industrial abrasive wheels. After experiencing a variety of changes throughout our nearly 70-year history, we now specialize in technologies that date back to the beginnings of human civilization: cutting, grinding and polishing. We work to advance these technologies for the semiconductor and electronic components industries, guided by a mission of helping to bring about the well being of society as a whole. The element that most distinguishes us from other companies is the set of values we call DISCO Values. DISCO Values cover every aspect of our business activities, from the overarching goals of our mission and corporate activities to the corporate culture to which we aspire. DISCO Values were first proposed in 1995 based on a strong desire of management at the time to transform DISCO into an organization with a more dynamic culture. They were the product of two years of thoroughgoing deliberations. Today, DISCO Values continue to be reviewed and updated. At the same time we work to ensure DISCO Values penetrate the activities of every employee and to ensure that they are held in common throughout the company.
We believe that corporate activities do not acquire meaning merely through the pursuit of economic profit. The reason we exist in society at all is precisely because we continue to gradually approach the realization of our mission and this is welcomed by stakeholders and the general public. In order to be a company that is recognized in this way by society we must grasp at a fundamental level what it is we can accomplish and what it is we should do, and commit ourselves fully to their practice. This is what we value most in the management of the company.
