Voltaix was founded in 1986 via a leveraged buy-out of certain assets of Energy Conversion Devices, including a gas QC laboratory and the rights to a patented process to make germane gas (GeH4). Initially supplying germane, silane and disilane to the amorphous silicon research community, Voltaix, Inc. has developed proprietary gas manufacturing capabilities and a portfolio of products which are increasingly needed in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and in ion implantation processes used in manufacturing silicon-based semiconductor devices. With the commercial market for its gases increasing on both the photovoltaic and semiconductor fronts, the privately-held company is growing rapidly.
